WASHINGTON: A prominent American organization dedicated to women’s advancement, has recognized Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Sherry Rehman, among their rating of influential women leaders in the world.
Calling her a “Master Tactictian” the Women in the World Foundation goes on to say that, “Sherry Rehman, Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, is known for her eloquence, elegance, and diplomatic savvy, while releasing names of 125 Women of Impact in the world.
“And no one seems better at calming the stormy relationship between Washington and Islamabad”, the foundation added.
Ambassador Rehman has led Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach in Washington at a challenging time for Pakistan-US relationship, which has seen improvement from an unprecedented low-point in 2011-12.
Last month, the President of Pakistan conferred on Ambassador Rehman the highest civilian honor Nishan-e-Imtiaz for her outstanding services to the country and the role she played in restoring the Pakistan-US relationship since her appointment in early 2012.
Prior to her appointment as Islamabad’s envoy in Washington, Sherry Rehman served as a distinguished parliamentarian and federal minister and has been a long time champion of women’s rights and freedom of the media.
The list of Women of Impact features some of the most prominent women leaders such as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, current US Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, and the only other Pakistani to be named, Oscar winning film director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy.
The Women in the World Foundation is a powerful initiative dedicated to driving solutions that advance women and girls and came into being out of Newsweek & The Daily Beast’s annual Women in the World Summit, launched by the publications’ editor-in-chief, Tina Brown, in March 2010.
