Islamabad, 14th March 2022: Parliamentary Leader of the PPP in the Senate, Senator Sherry Rehman said “The Government threatens to hold a rally at D-Chowk on the 27th of March in anticipation of the VONC that is bound to be against them, and threatens members with having to pass through the rally and go to Parliament. Tehreek I Insaf has become Tehreek I Intishar in a blatant attempt to subvert the constitution in a feeble attempt to hang on to power.”
“Threatening to hold a rally at D-Chowk to hinder parliamentarians from voting in the VONC is downright reprehensible. The government claims to have a majority in the NA; so why panic now? This is a testament to the triumph of the no-confidence motion. Whilst it is rather unprecedented for the ruling party’s first response to be resorting to mob violence. Considering Niazi’s vexing diatribes nothing should come as a shock anymore.”
The senator said “Threatening members and preventing them from voting is a violation of constitution and rules. Even the National Assembly secretariat has told the Speaker that preventing any parliamentarian from casting their vote is unconstitutional. This desperation to hang on to office is a sad demonstration of the lengths PTI is willing to go in crossing all democratic red lines. Regardless of their baseless attempts at stopping the VNOC; the Opposition is united due to the momentum from the nation and political rallies. Nothing shall stop any member from casting their votes be it barbed wires or propaganda warfare from a fraudulent and temporary government.”
She continued to say, “This accidental government is the result of fraud and an RTS malfunction. Imran Niazi has lost his majority in the NA. In his hysterical frenzy Niazi and his cabinet have threatened us with not only personal targeted violence against the Opposition leaders but are now threatening the masses with their bombings. We knew Niazi was unbothered by the plight of the common man but surely it would be obvious to anyone that violence is never the solution.”
She concluded by saying, “Tabahi Sarkar’s accidental government is coming to an end. Their wicked schemes and feeble attempts at stopping us are bound to crash and burn much like they did to our national airline. We have weathered the worst storms and this tsunami is bound to pass as well. We have never once in our conduct or behavior ever overstepped the bounds of the law, and we will not stand for the rule of law to be discarded in our Democratic Nation. The VONC will go through regardless of the challenges in our way.”
