Ambassador Sherry Rehman and her team at the Embassy of Pakistan, Washington DC congratulate Ms. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy on her historic accomplishment of securing first ever Oscar for Pakistan. Ms. Sharmeen’s documentary “Saving Face†earned this internationally renowned award at the 84th Annual Academy Awards held at Los Angeles on February 26, 2012. The Prime Minister of Pakistan Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has announced a high Civil Award for Ms. Sharmeen for bringing fame and glory to the country and making all Pakistanis proud. Her creative and passionate documentary has not only placed a serious issue on the spotlight but has also accentuated resolve of the people of Pakistan and the compassion of expatriate Pakistanis, like Dr. Jawad Khan (a British national of Pakistani origin) in addressing it. Dr. Jawad has set a dazzling example for the Pakistani Diaspora all over the world to follow. “Saving Face†is a testament to the quiet dignity and limitless courage of two Pakistani women and many more like them, who despite suffering tremendously are determined to continue with their lives and do not allow self-pity and bitterness to blight their existence. The Ambassador wishes Ms. Chinoy comparable successes in her profession and hopes that she will continue to win laurels for Pakistan.
